How to Create and Manage Sub-Accounts

Learn how to create and manage multiple independent sub-accounts under the same seed phrase in Plug Wallet.

Updated over 2 months ago

When using Plug Wallet, you can create multiple sub-accounts, each tied to the same seed phrase but functioning completely independently. These sub-accounts offer flexibility and privacy, as they are not linked together in any way. Follow the steps below to manage your sub-accounts effectively.

Understanding Sub-Accounts in Plug Wallet

  1. When you first create a Plug Wallet, it will automatically generate a primary sub-account. This is the first wallet linked to your seed phrase.

  2. If you need additional wallets, you can create multiple sub-accounts, all tied to the same seed phrase. However, each sub-account is entirely independent, meaning they cannot be linked or tied to one another, giving you more control over how you manage your assets.

Step 1: Access Wallet Settings

  1. Open the Plug Wallet app or extension.

  2. Click on your wallet address at the top of the screen to open the Settings menu.

Step 2: Add a New Sub-Account

  1. In the settings, click on the "Add Another Wallet" option to create a new sub-account.

  2. The new wallet will be created under the same seed phrase but will have its own unique account ID and principal ID.

Step 3: Manage Multiple Sub-Accounts

  1. Each sub-account functions independently. You can transfer funds between them, but they are otherwise not linked together.

  2. You can repeat this process to create as many sub-accounts as you need, all under the same seed phrase for easy management, but with individual control.

Important Notes

  • While all sub-accounts are tied to the same seed phrase, losing the seed phrase means losing access to all sub-accounts, so it’s crucial to back it up securely.

  • Remember, sub-accounts are completely independent—they do not share transaction histories, balances, or account details.
