How to buy crypto

Learn how to buy crypto directly in Plug using fiat on-ramp providers or centralized exchanges.

Updated over a week ago

Buying crypto is a key part of getting started with Plug. If you are not already holding crypto, or if you want to buy more, you have two main options. You can either buy through a centralized exchange (such as Coinbase or Binance), or you can use a fiat on-ramp provider integrated directly into Plug.

In both cases, you will usually be required to create an account and complete identity verification (KYC). This typically involves submitting a valid form of identification, in line with the provider’s regulatory obligations, including anti-money laundering policies.

1) Buy crypto directly with Plug using fiat on-ramp providers

Plug integrates with OnRamper, an industry leading fiat on-ramp aggregator that allows you to buy crypto easily and have it delivered straight into your Plug wallet.

To buy crypto:

  1. Open Plug and tap on Buy from the main screen

  2. You will be redirected to OnRamper

  3. Select the token you want to buy, the amount, and your preferred payment method

  4. OnRamper will automatically suggest the best provider based on your location and payment preferences

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. In most cases, this includes creating an account and completing KYC

  6. Once the transaction is confirmed, your crypto will be sent directly into your Plug wallet, no need to transfer manually

2) Buy crypto through a centralized exchange

You can also purchase crypto through an external exchange if you prefer.

  1. Create an account on a centralized exchange like Coinbase, Binance, or Kraken

  2. Buy the crypto you want on the platform

  3. Send the crypto to your Plug wallet address

Why should I move my crypto to Plug?

Plug is a non-custodial wallet. This means only you hold your private keys, and only you have control over your crypto. Centralized exchanges can be convenient but come with risks: they may freeze accounts, suffer outages, or be targeted by hackers. With Plug, your assets are in your hands.
